The 2025 Victorian Junior Chess Championship was held from 17 to 20 July 2025 at Bacchus Marsh Grammar, Woodlea Campus, proudly hosted by the Hobsons Bay and Wyndham Chess Clubs. Spanning multiple divisions—U8, U10, U12, U14, U16 and U18, each with Open and Girls sections—the tournament assembled the most promising youthful talents from across Victoria.
In the U16–U18 Open, the top podium was fiercely contested. Ultimately, Wang Cunmeng clinched first with 6.5 points, closely followed by Candidate Master Arthur Gao on 6, and Candidate Master Tedric Li with 5.5.
The U14 Open division saw Neev Brahmbhatt dominate with 6.5 points, while Anh Kiet Nguyen took a strong second place on 6.
In the U12 Open, Lucas Zhao emerged as champion with a perfect 7 points, ahead of Fergus Tang (6) and Matthew Zheng (6).
The Girls U16–U18 division showcased an impressive performance by Vidushi Dissanayake, who achieved a flawless 7/7 score.
Meanwhile, in the younger categories, Erin Yuan topped the U10 Girls with 7 points, Harry Wilford secured victory in U10 Open with 6.5, and Mia Tan reigned supreme in U8 Girls with a perfect 7-point performance.
Organizers reported a smoothly run, ACF-rated seven-round Swiss event, with time controls tailored to each age group—U8 and U10 played under a 40 min + 10 sec increment format.
This year’s Championship not only celebrated standout performances but also tremendous sportsmanship and potential among Victoria’s young chess stars.
